Ahmad Shahizam Mohd Shariff
Ahmad is an experienced senior investment and management professional with over 28 years of investment, banking, capital markets, operational and management experience in sectors ranging from investment management, Islamic banking, healthcare, education and technology.
Ahmad began his career in banking and investment management in 1994 with HSBC Malaysia as a Resident Manager under their management talent development program, where he gained strong foundations in banking, credit assessment, finance, treasury and banking operations.
In 2003 and 2004 Ahmad transitioned to investment banking where he was Director and Head of Islamic Capital Markets for HSBC Amanah in South East Asia. There he led HSBC Amanah's sukuk and equity capital market origination activities, including the first issuance of Malaysian ringgit corporate sukuk al-ijarah.
As part of the senior management team at Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) between 2004 to 2010, Ahmad was part of the core team that designed and executed the GLC Transformation Program which involved group-wide strategy setting and executing the business transformation programs of various Khazanah GLCs. He also set up and headed Khazanah's communications and stakeholder management function as well representing Khazanah on the investment panel of ValueCap, a government led strategic investment fund company.
Between 2010 and 2017 Ahmad held key leadership roles at IHH Healthcare Berhad (“IHH”), where he led the Khazanah team in executing the fund's healthcare sector strategy through various acquisitions, merger consolidation, operational enhancement and ultimately the successful IPO of IHH in 2012.
Most recently Ahmad was the President & Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ”), where he led the revamp and transformation of Malaysia's largest private healthcare provider, charting a fresh growth and expansion strategy for the 40-year old company.
In addition to his corporate roles, Ahmad is also an active angel investor in his personal capacity, investing in start-up companies in health services, healthtech, data analytics and digital marketing. He actively provides strategic and commercial counsel and guidance to these start ups, as well as providing coaching and mentoring to some of the founders.
Ahmad has a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Laws degree from The London School of Economics and Political Science.
